Hyperhidrosis: Homeopathic Approach

Hyperhidrosis – Homeopathic Approach

Definition

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterized by excessive sweating beyond the body's physiological need for temperature regulation. It may occur even in cool environments and without physical activity.

Commonly affected areas

  • Palms
  • Soles
  • Armpits (Axillae)
  • Face
  • Scalp
  • Generalized body sweating

Classification

Primary Hyperhidrosis

  • No identifiable underlying disease
  • Often begins in childhood or adolescence
  • Common in palms, soles and axillae

Secondary Hyperhidrosis

Occurs due to underlying diseases such as:

  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Diabetes Mellitus
  • Tuberculosis
  • Menopause
  • Medication side effects

Causes

  • Overactivity of the sympathetic nervous system
  • Emotional stress or anxiety
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Metabolic diseases
  • Genetic predisposition

Pathophysiology

Sweat glands are controlled by the autonomic nervous system. In hyperhidrosis the sympathetic nervous system becomes overactive, stimulating the eccrine sweat glands to produce excessive sweat. Palms and soles contain the highest number of sweat glands, therefore they are commonly affected.
